RELEASE NUMBER: 082508-1
August 25, 2008

By United States Transportation Command Public Affairs

The United States Transportation Command and the Army's Military Surface Distribution and Deployment Command have announced the initial rollout of the Defense Personal Property System, or DPS.

DPS is the automated management system for movement of household goods for members of the Armed Services and government civilians. The system automates much of the process of pre-move counseling, scheduling, tracking, invoicing and claims filing for household goods shipments.

DPS operations will begin Sept. 10 at 18 transportation offices designated in conjunction with their service headquarters and will be available to transportation offices worldwide Jan. 22. This system implements elements of the USTRANSCOM Families First initiative and will replace TOPS, the Transportation Operational Personal Property Standard System.
